Pears Cooked in Wine
Pears Cooked in Wine Low Carb, Fat Free

Yield: 8 servings
8 small pears, peeled with stem intact
1/4 cup lemon juice 1 cup dry red wine (optional)
1/2 cup strong raspberry herbal tea
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
sugar substitute equal to 1 cup sugar
2-3 whole cloves
2 tablespoons sugar-free, berry flavored jello or sugar free powdered drink mix
2 tablespoons water


Brush pears with lemon juice. Combine wine, tea, vanilla, sugar substitute, drink mix or jello and cloves in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add whole pears, cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes (till a knife inserted comes out easily). Carefully remove pears to a plate with a slotted spoon and set aside.

Bring the syrup to a slow boil till it thickens As soon as the syrup starts to thicken, add the pears once again. Lower heat and gently turn the pears with a wooden spoon until they develop a dark, rich color.

Place the pears in a container, cover with syrup and refrigerate. You can slice a small piece from the bottom of the pears to help them stand nicely.

Plate garnish: 1 cinnamon stick orange peel dipped in the syrup sugar-free chocolate syrup
